Once the fruit has been picked it goes to the packhouse. Here it is chilled and quality assessed. The fruit is then packed, heat sealed, labelled and distributed to various customers. The number of packhouse staff varies and can be up to 80. Much of the work in the packhouse is technical and there are about 20 members of staff who hold key positions, requiring more specialist knowledge and experience. Most of these key staff members began on the farm as general workers or pickers.
